Fresh political undercurrents appear to be shaping the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, as reports suggest a growing rift between Governor Hope Uzodimma and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
At the center of the development is the Imo APC State Chairman, Chief Austin Onyedebelu, who is said to have pledged allegiance to Kalu in what observers describe as a significant political realignment.
According to sources, the meeting took place on Sunday, April 19, at Protea Hotel Owerri, where Kalu was lodged ahead of the APC South-East Zonal Meeting scheduled to hold at the Imo State Government House.
Onyedebelu had reportedly been at the Omuma residence of Governor Uzodimma earlier in the day before leaving abruptly for Owerri. His movement was said to have been prompted by information from Abia APC Chairman, Hon. Paul Chukwu, indicating that Kalu had arrived and was open to discussions regarding a possible shift in political alignment.
The meeting between Onyedebelu and Kalu reportedly lasted about 30 minutes, after which the APC chairman was seen leaving in high spirits. Sources allege that the engagement may signal an emerging alignment with Kalu’s political bloc, amid speculation that the Deputy Speaker is positioning to strengthen his influence across APC structures in the South-East.
